The Two-Building Campus Will Provide Critical Educational Support, Health Services, Quality Food
Options and More to the Harrisburg and Laney Walker Neighborhoods

Augusta, GA – Today, the HUB Augusta Collaborative, a coalition led by Community Foundation for the CSRA, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta, and Medical College of Georgia Foundation, held a preview event for its partners, community leaders, and stakeholders to mark the completion of the construction phase of the HUB for Community Innovation.

Located on the corner of Chafee Avenue and Fenwick Street, the HUB for Community Innovation is a two-building campus which will be home to five mission-aligned nonprofits. HUB West, a 33,000 square foot building, will be home to Augusta Locally Grown, Augusta University Literacy Center, RISE Augusta, and Harrisburg Family Health Care. HUB East, a 16,000 square foot building, will be the headquarters and support center for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta. Through a self-guided tour, attendees heard directly from the nonprofits about the programs and services that will be offered when the buildings open for services this summer.

The $33.5 million project – which includes construction as well as an endowment for the ongoing support of the buildings – is supported by a combination of grants, individual, and corporate contributions, including a $10 million donation from the Augusta National Golf Club and its corporate partners AT&T, Bank of America, and IBM. Recently, Georgia Power Foundation announced a $2.5 million dollar investment in the project. Additionally, the HUB Augusta Collaborative successfully closed a New Market Tax Credit transaction with support from Carver Financial Corporation, Community Reinvestment Fund and Truist Community Capital which netted over $4 million dollars for the construction phase of the project.

The HUB for Community Innovation plans to have a Grand Opening event this summer celebrating this milestone with the community and its supporters.

Design and construction for the project is being led by Johnson Development, Doug Neil with Daniel Communities, Chris Booker & Associates, Choate Construction, and Cranston Engineering Group.

About the HUB for Community Innovation
The HUB for Community Innovation is intended to serve as the cornerstone of an ambitious, multi-year community revitalization strategy to uplift Harrisburg and Laney Walker and the thousands of families who live there. Over the past several decades, both neighborhoods have suffered greatly from public disinvestment, the incremental departure of locally-owned businesses, and erosion of many basic community services. The HUB will help rebuild connection and collaboration among nonprofits and neighbors by hosting community events, welcoming public speakers, providing space for civic groups to gather, and much more. It will also provide access to critical services and resources that are necessary for families to thrive.

About the HUB Augusta Collaborative
The mission of the HUB Augusta Collaborative is to pursue innovative, collaborative solutions that bolster equitable access to all the essential elements of a thriving community – mixed-income housing, a variety of healthy food sources, quality healthcare, and educational supports. It is a new nonprofit organization led by three member organizations – Community Foundation for the CSRA (www.cfcsra.org), Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta (www.bgcgreateraugusta.org), and Medical College of Georgia Foundation (www.mcgfoundation.org). Its Board of Directors has representation from member organizations, major partners, and representatives/leaders from the neighborhoods we seek to serve.
